How Grain Gym picks your next weight
Each program runs on a progression rule. What each of the 11 does with your last session.
Coach notes is a switch under Settings, then Workout display, and in the workout's ⋯ menu. It starts off. Once it's on, the Coach note appears on exercise cards in a program workout, in two parts. It reads your program and your logged sessions. Free during beta, and covered on the features page.
The note starts with COACH: and includes a recap of your last session and, depending on the rule, a target or trigger line.
The set rows carry the targets, so load the bar from those.
Once every working set is done, the note rewrites itself. It recaps what you hit and says what the program decided. It ends with a short closer such as "Good work." or "Same weight. Own it."
The wording depends on the rule. A double progression note says whether you hit your reps and are going up. A linear, wave, step or undulating note says whether the weight goes up, holds or backs off next week. For RPE-based, top-backoff and AMRAP programs the note says nothing about progression, because you set the load.
The note is saved with the workout, so you can reopen a past session from History and read the same one.

Bodyweight exercises log reps, with weight optional. Assisted exercises log like any other.
The Progress tab has five sections: Overview, History, Exercises, Insights and PRs. What each one shows.
